The farewell gig at Nosturi was epic and you, our fans and friends, made this experience and all past years incredible.
We couldn't have done this without you!
Kiuas is a really surprising act. They combine almost everything possible in their music. Basically this is solid heavy metal, but with lots of influences from power metal and even death metal, but those are quite minimal. Neither epic or folk elements are not unfamiliar to the band. Some modern touches are also found, so the result is quite breath-taking and unique.
Title track opens with fast melodic assault and some blast beats. Riffs are great and the speed varies nicely between fast and slow parts. Vocalist has got a good range and enough of much-needed balls to pull everything through. Following On Winds Of Death We Ride continues the melodic speedy assault. Keyboards have a nice sound on many songs, not too evident, but there they are. Also few keyboard solos can be heard. Some surprising Finnish lyrics are on Across The Snows, which sounds a bit weird as the rest of the the album is in English. The acoustic guitars on some songs sound also really good and add their own touch to the overall mood. I also have to mention the violin in the beginning of And The North Star Cried, which sounds really amazing.
One of the surprises of the year, definitely. As this is only their debut, I can only wonder what kind of impact the next one will have. Recommended to all metal fans!
