The farewell gig at Nosturi was epic and you, our fans and friends, made this experience and all past years incredible.
We couldn't have done this without you!
I recently reviewed british Dragonforce here at HMAS and raised the question concerning whether power metal could be described as extreme or not. I didn't come to a conclusion then but now I have. Finland's Kiuas are in every sense of the word an extreme power metal band. Their mixture of power metal, thrash and Swedish sounding melo-death is first and foremost to be labelled as melodic metal but it definitely has an extreme factor to it, blastbeats and all.
I've always imagined what The Jester Race (In Flames) or Follow the Reaper (C.O.B) would've sounded like with a "normal" singer and finally I get a taste. This is pure gold for anyone who has always enjoyed the music on offer by bands like In Flames, Children of Bodom or Soilwork but who in the end haven't been able to overlook the growled voices. Singer Ilja Jalkanen has a fantastic clean n' razorsharp voice in the same league as Jrn Lande or Daniel Heiman.
The songwriting is of equally high quality. The menacing titletrack and Warrior Soul, with its super-glue chorus (song of the year!?), being my immediate favorites. A killer debut by these Finns! I can't wait to hear more in the future! Suomi Finland Perkele!
