The farewell gig at Nosturi was epic and you, our fans and friends, made this experience and all past years incredible.
We couldn't have done this without you!
Kiuas. Don't know them yet? Shame on you! Another great band from Finland. Very simply said, stylewise they're a mixture of Children of Bodom and Sonata Arctica. Loads of keyboards, great variation in pace, atmosphere and vocals. Ilja Jalkanen has the power and ability to convincingly sing both raw and clean. Their 2005 debut full length 'Spirit of Ukko' and earlier EP's are obligatory in my collection.
So here we have a quick follow up already. It is an album that needs time to grow but even then it does not equal the debut. On 'Reformation' there is more musicality but less daring adventures like for instance the song 'Discipline of Steel' from their first Ep. 'Reformation' is a safe Kiuas album on which the band tried to make a calculated hybrid of all previous efforts and somehow lacks the burning flame to bring it to life. it's not until 'Black Winged Goddess' when the band shows it's full power and energy. After that the album gets much better and the highlight is closing song and titletrack 'Reformation'. For some reason the album gives the impression the band did not give 100% this time to make it happen for them. The titletrack and some other songs are truly marvelous but most songs are too safely in the middle and maybe should have been given more time to evolve into gems. And that's a bit pitty for Kiuas are actually musically a very talented bunch! Next time, compositionally try to excel again.
